Dow AgroSciences, Lilly to Sponsor National Biotechnology Poster Competition

Indianapolis, IN - February 27, 2007

Dow AgroSciences LLC and Eli Lilly and Company announced today that they will be sponsoring the newly named 2007 Dow AgroSciences-Lilly BioDreaming Poster Competition. The competition encourages K-12 students across the nation to use their artistic talents to create posters that showcase their understanding of the promise and challenges of biotechnology.

First implemented by the Biotechnology Institute in 2004, this national poster competition educates young people about biotechnology and its potential for solving human health, food, and environmental problems producing powerful images of a world made better through biotechnology.

“Helping to provide the creative spark that could launch a scientific career is one goal of our educational outreach efforts,” says Dr. Dan Kittle, vice president of Research and Development at Dow AgroSciences. “A student who is encouraged to explore biotechnology today can become the source of an innovative solution in the future.”

The competition encourages kindergarten to 12th grade (K-12) students in public and private schools and youth organizations to submit posters that express the role that biotechnology plays in our lives, our communities, or the world at large. The posters are grouped into four grade categories: K-3rd grade, 4-6th grade, 7-9th grade, and 10-12th grade. First, second, and third place is awarded in each grade category. Winners will receive prizes of $500, $250, and $100, respectively. Submission guidelines are available at www.biotechinstitute.org.

The artwork of the top 12 student winners’ will be displayed at the Biotechnology Institute’s annual awards banquet during the Conference on Biotechnology Education, the BIO International Convention, and on the Institute’s website. The winners will then be invited to Indianapolis for a special award ceremony to be held in June.
