Dow AgroSciences Pledges Quarter Million Dollar Gift to Revitalize Final 4-H Building at Indiana State Fairgrounds

Indianapolis, IN - August 07, 2006

Dow AgroSciences LLC announced today it will provide a $250,000 gift to the Indiana State Fairgrounds to revitalize the third building in the 4-H Complex, formerly a girls’ dormitory which was closed in 1990. Rehabilitation of the building, to be named Discovery Hall, will be complete in time for the 2008 Indiana State Fair and will become the center for multiple types of educational units focused on biotechnology and life sciences. The three buildings in the 4-H Complex on the northwest side of the Fairgrounds were originally built in 1938-39 as part of the federal Works Progress Administration (WPA); renovations on the Complex’s other two buildings, 4-H Exhibit Hall and Centennial Hall, were completed in 2004.

“We are pleased to provide this gift through The Dow Chemical Company Foundation which will help the youth of Indiana enhance their interest and appreciation of science through interaction at an outstanding facility at the Indiana State Fairgrounds,” says Jerome Peribere, Dow AgroSciences president and CEO. “Science education is essential to the future of Indiana as it participates in a global economy, and we hope Discovery Hall can be used by a variety of groups involved year-round with science and agricultural education opportunities, including Indiana’s 4-H Youth Development programs, FFA, and other ag-based organizations.”

“We are grateful to Dow AgroSciences for their commitment to the renovation of the third building of the 4-H Complex,” said Cindy Hoye, executive director of the Indiana State Fair Commission. “This facility will be a great complement to the others that were done two years ago and will help us continue to showcase 4-H in a state-of-the art setting. It will also be a huge part of our new agriculture education environment throughout the rest of the year.”

Dr. Randy Woodson, the Glenn W. Sample dean of agriculture at Purdue University, adds, “Purdue Agriculture is excited about our continued partnership with Dow AgroSciences and the Indiana State Fair, as we develop and deliver outstanding science education programs for Indiana’s youth.”
